What they found in the attic

They found it in the attic

Under a pale dusty sheet

Guessing it's age older than lincoln

Though beyond the aging

And the artwork of spiders

The beauty is magnificent

Engraved in the front

A detailed flower with vines

Pertruding from each direction

What a treasure to find

In an attic of their own

A precious piece of work

Hidden amongst odd entities

That have been placed along the years

Never knowing what was under

The pale dusty sheet.

Embrace:>Billy Collins

Embrace
You know the parlor trick.
wrap your arms around your own body
and from the back it looks like someone is embracing you
her hands grasping your shirt
her fingernails teasing your neck
from the front it is another story
you never looked so alone your crossed elbows and screwy grin
you could be waiting for a tailor
to fit you with a straight jacket
one that would hold you really tight. ---Billy Collins-

The voice in Billy Collins "Embrace" poem to me seems to be rather humorous at first. Then turns to a more cynical voice. The poem itself is really interesting. The action of wrapping your arms around yourself to pretend you are being kissed by someone, from the back this is obvious. Then from the view in front it is nothing but one person hugging themselves. This image is great, becuase in a way the poem is like what you see for face value and your first impressions. "wrap your arms around your own body and from the back it looks like someone is embracing you".Then the next view is the truth. " you never looked so alone your crossed elbows and screwy grin". Something many people like to hide. My favorite lines are" you could be waiting for a tailor to fit you with a straight jacket one that would hold you really tight".

Performance Poetry

SERENITY
How lovely is the sound of trickling water
And the beauty that nature gives
My wish is to be in a spot just like this
And live in a small wooden cottage
There would be no need for green luscious gardens
When carpeting the earth are flowers
My favorites are daffodils, and lilies
The sweet smell hits your nose like the drug you’ve been missing.
My sweet serenity, this to you
You’ll be in my dreams for now but I swear you’ll come true.]

1) The voice in this poem seems to be dreamy. Like the kind of daydream that takes you to the place you have always desired. The one that will free your mind.
2) With excitment and anticipation of this place to be of one I will truely live someday.
3)Just hands in the movement of trickling water. And when the smell hits your nose..
4) The whole idea of acting excited..I have found it really pisses people off. Because most people live unhappy lives and happy people are annoying!! HOW LAME. What seems exciting is for me to see how the rest of the class will perform their pieces.
5) All poetry is meant to be performed. In order to get the full affect of the poem, it's best read aloud. So your really EXPERIENCING the piece.
